Nestor Bayona appointed as Resident Conductor of NOSPR

Spanish conductor Nestor Bayona has been named Resident Conductor of the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra (NOSPR). The news of his role comes after he assisted the orchestra and Marin Alsop on a successful tour to Japan. His engagement will see him join NOSPR and its Music Director Lawrence Forster in the 2022/23 season, after a two year tenure as its Assistant Conductor.

Starting from January 2023, in his new position as Resident Conductor, he will assist Music Director Lawrence Foster as well as conduct a number of symphonic concerts, leading NOSPR in a variety of different concert programmes and significant projects such as recordings, family and educational concerts.

"I am thrilled to be taking on the new role as Resident Conductor of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra (NOSPR). It is one of the finest sounding orchestras in Europe. I have built up a very warm relationship with the orchestra over the past two years and look forward to working more closely with Lawrence Forster and the orchestra in the 2022/23 season" comments the conductor on his new role.

During the 2022/23 season, he will also assist the Liverpool Philharmonic on Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi and make his debut with the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès at the finals of the Ricard Viñes Piano Competition, as well as conduct concerts with NOSPR and the Filarmonica Transilvania.

In 2021, Nestor Bayona conducted concerts at the Opéra de Marseille, the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Palau de la Musica in Barcelona and the Enescu Festival 2021. Other former guest invitations include conducting debuts at the Festival International de Piano de la Roque d’Anthéron with and the soloist David Kadouch, and at the Grand Théâtre in Aix-en-Provence with David Fray. He has conducted the Bochumer Symphoniker, the Orquesta de Extremadura, the Orquesta de Castilla y León and made his debut at the Berliner Philharmonie with the Deutsche Skandinavische Jugend-Philharmonie.

Awards for his achievements include the Associate Member of the Royal Northern College of Music, a new award for up-and-coming alumni of the college in 2021 and the Ciutat de Lleida International Award in 2015 for his cultural contribution to his hometown.
