JazzKLUB / Adam Makowicz solo piano
A nestor of Polish jazz. A piano virtuoso, a philanthropist, an autodidact, a musician of global renown. Having played in bands with Andrzej Kurylewicz, Zbigniew Namysłowski, Michał Urbaniak, and in a duo with Tomasz Stańko, in the early 70s he decided to follow the career path of a soloist. Discovered by John Hammond in 1977, he moved to New York, where he was dubbed a new Art Tatum. He gave a hugely successful performance at Carnegie Hall and recorded the Adam solo album for CBS Columbia.
His discography spans over 60 albums, both solo and ones recorded with the greatest personalities of global jazz. He has been a soloist with orchestras at home and abroad, performing compositions of his own, ones by Fryderyk Chopin, and, most commonly, standards of the Great American Songbook, on stages of the most famous philharmonics in the United States and in Europe.
His unusually broad repertoire brings together a love for classics and “the world of freedom and improvisation”, while his style blends Fryderyk Chopin’s romanticism, Keith Jarrett’s lyricism, and Art Tatum’s elegance of phrase.
