Anthony Strong - NOSPR
Anthony Strong
Hailed as a star jazz singer in his native England, he instantly broke into the world's stages and charms audiences on several continents with his distinctive voice. Even overseas they say that Jamie Cullum and Michael Bublé can't sleep well at night!
Anthony Strong is a British jazz pianist, composer, singer and songwriter. The influence of jazz classics can be heard in Strong's music, and his piano playing is based on his vast knowledge of swing by Wynton Kelly, Oscar Peterson or Bill Evans. In his smooth, tailored suit and personal charm, Anthony Strong seems to happily fill the role of “English gentleman.” His voice and swinging style of piano playing combined with the energy flowing from the stage, is a musical feast appreciated by audiences from all over the world.
Anthony spent his early years at three leading music schools in England, first studying classical piano, eventually devoting himself to jazz music. His early love of the music of Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans and Wynton Kelly eventually led him to Frank Sinatra, Mel Torme and Nat King Cole and, consequently, to jazz singing.
Since the release of his debut album in 2013, Anthony has been written about on the front page of France's most-read newspaper Le Figaro, has performed live in front of millions of German television viewers, and has been hailed by the British press as “a formidable talent, with every indication of being the next star in the pantheon of contemporary retro-jazz, alongside Jamie Cullum and Michael Bublé.” Which is not to say, at the same time, that Strong treats well-known songs the old-fashioned way; he infects them with his freshness and positive energy, which works so well at concerts. More than 20 musicians were involved in the album's production, with one goal - as Anthony himself put it: to make the album's listeners feel that “wow” effect that comes at concerts.
As a “new English jazz star,” boasting a performance in front of the legendary BB King and the release of a mini-album that reached number one in the UK jazz charts, singer and pianist Anthony Strong has attracted the interest of the world's most prominent music labels. And the album “Stepping Out” reached number one on the US iTunes Jazz Charts.
Today, he effortlessly sells out large venues in nearly 30 countries on 4 continents, to name a few, such as the CCB in Lisbon, France's legendary Jazz in Marciac festival, the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore and the Hollywood Bowl in the States.
We would like to invite you to a unique concert at Katowice's NOSPR, where the “English gentleman” Anthony Strong will play and sing together with the Silesian Big Band, conducted by Grzegorz Nagórski, and as guests: Julia Pietrucha, Dorota Miśkiewicz and Magda Steczkowska. British swinging jazz along with a strong representation of female Polish vocalists is really their only concert and also an opportunity to see that music has no borders.
