Anna Piroli

Italian soprano endowed with remarkable vocal versatility, she is dedicated to an eclectic repertoire that spans from medieval to contemporary music.

Born in Cremona, after earning a degree in Literature and a Bachelor’s in Singing at the Conservatorio di Milano, she furthered her training at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano under the guidance of Luisa Castellani.

A significant milestone in her career has been the encounter with Jordi Savall in 2021, which led to frequent performances with Hesperion XXI and within the Capella Nacional de Catalunya.

She collaborates with some of the finest ensembles in Europe, including Collegium Vocale Gent, Il Pomo d’Oro, La Cetra Barockorchester, RossoPorpora, La Fonte Musica, La Compagnia del Madrigale, Ensemble Cristóbal de Morales, and groups specialising in new music like Cantando Admont, Schallfeld Ensemble, L’Arsenale, Divertimento Ensemble.

She has also performed under the baton of Emilio Pomarico, Philippe Herreweghe, Andrea Marcon, Leonardo García Alarcón, Maxime Emelyanychev, Alessandro Quarta, James Wood.

Passionately committed to the performance of contemporary works, she has been entrusted with numerous premieres at venues such as La Biennale di Venezia, IRCAM in Paris, National Opera of Ukraine, National Theatre Prague, Opéra de Dijon, Flanders Festival Ghent and others.

Among the places where she has performed as a soloist are some of the most prestigious concert halls in Europe and Northern America, including Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, Opéra Royal de Versailles, Barbican Hall and Kings Place in London, Philharmonie Luxembourg, Philharmonie Berlin, Philharmonie Essen, Muziekgebow aan ‘t IJ Amsterdam, TivoliVredenburg Utrecht, Teatro Real de Madrid, Auditori de Barcelona, Palau de la Música de Valencia, Auditorium de Tenerife, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Montréal Place des Arts, Seattle Town Hall, and Berkeley Zellerbach Hall.

Recent highlights have included La Musica and Proserpina in Monteverdi L’Orfeo (Birgitta Festival, Estonia), Second Witch in Purcell Dido & Æneas in the European tour of Il Pomo d’Oro; Bach B minor Mass and Magnificat, Vivaldi Gloria, Mozart Great Mass in C minor, Beethoven Ninth Symphony.

She was awarded the “Fatima Terzo” Baroque Singing Prize (Vicenza 2023), the first prize at the San Colombano Sacred Music Competition (Piacenza 2022) as well as the first “Michiko Hirayama” Prize by Scelsi Foundation in 2016.
