Sophie Dervaux is principal bassoonist of the Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna State Opera Orchestra. Previously, she played as the principal contrabassoon of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. She won over a dozen international awards, including the International ARD Music Competition and the Beethoven Ring as well as the German Record Critics' Award for her album "Impressions."
She performed as a soloist with over 50 professional orchestras worldwide, including the Vienna Philharmonic.
Sophie Dervaux is also a conductor and has led orchestras in France, Romania, Japan, Germany, Armenia and Korea.
She is a lecturer at the Music and Art Private University of Vienna and gives masterclasses worldwide.
Sophie Dervaux started her musical education with guitar and clarinet before learning the bassoon. She studied in Versailles, Lyon and Berlin. She was a member of the Berlin Philharmonic Karajan Academy. Her mentors include C. Colombo, J. Pignoly, V. Tessmann, and D. Damiano.
She has released albums with the Mozarteum Orchestra of Salzburg, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, Sélim Mazari and a trio with Daniel Barenboim and Emmanuel Pahud.
Currently, she is recording the complete set of Vivaldi bassoon concertos with La Folia Barockorchester.
