Axelle Fanyo / Kunal Lahiry / Tender narrator - NOSPR
Axelle Fanyo / Kunal Lahiry / Tender narrator
Axelle Fanyo, a young French soprano, does more than portray the characters of her songs with unusual ease – she also tells their stories with the gentleness and tenderness of a seasoned narrator. She has enjoyed widespread critical acclaim for her brilliant voice being complemented with unsurpassable diction, stage personality and acting.
In her very personal recital, Fanyo is going to perform songs by Arnold Schönberg and the Pulitzer-winning American composer William Bolcom, ones that won her the main prize of the Concours international de Chant-Piano Nadia et Lili Boulanger 2021. Saturday’s programme will be further enhanced with works by the master of the cabaret, Kurt Weill, as well as a premiere of a piece by the 1988-born Greek composer Sofia Avramidou. Last but not least, the Negro spiritual Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child will be a tribute to Black women.
In the recital, she will be accompanied by the Indian-American pianist Kunal Lahiry, a BBC New Generation Artist.
Fanyo began her musical adventure playing the violin, which she dropped in order to focus on singing, and it was as a vocalist that she graduated from the Paris Conservatory. Her teachers were such stars as Waltraud Meier, Felicity Lott and Renée Fleming. She has collaborated with masters such as Esa-Pekka Salonen and the pianist Julius Drake.
Axelle Fanyo is a Rising Stars artist. The programme, organised by the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO), bringing together Europe’s finest concert halls, promotes future stars of classical music. Every year, it enables several most talented young musicians and ensembles from various countries to make their name with international audiences during a tournée of the ECHO member venues. Axelle Fanyo was nominated for participation in the programme by as many as three institutions: the Philharmonie de Paris, the Auditorium de Lyon and the Gulbenkian Foundation.
