Wojciech Kilar - Memorial Concert / NOSPR / Wit / Książek
Concert of music by Wojciech Kilar on the 90th anniversary of his birth.
„On the one hand, one would like Krzesany, performed on stage, to remain something mysterious, so that it is difficult to say whether its author is a highly refined avant-gardist or we are dealing with a simpleton, just a highland village organist. On the other hand, when you enhance it with mountains, sheep, and shepherds in a filmic image, the whole mysteriousness evaporates...”. Such was Wojciech Kilar’s 1974 commentary on his work, later to become the most popular of them all, published in the “Ruch Muzyczny” periodical. It would be more than once that he would later balance on the verge of simplicity and refinement, for instance in the dark Piano Concerto No. 2, composed after the Smolensk plane crash. The company of the masters of Polish Romanticism will emphasise other echoes in his music, music that is certainly worth returning to and pondering upon.
